The Foolish Promise

The great victory given to Jephthah and the Israelites serves as a clear picture of spiritual power and victory achieved through the presence of the LORD. Preparations were made to fight the war. The LORD's Spirit came upon Jephthah and empowered him to command the army as they advanced against the Ammonites. Somewhere along the way Jephthah made a vow to the LORD: If the LORD gave him victory, he promised to dedicate the very first person that came out of his house to greet him when he returned in triumph.
