Nothing Is Too Hard for God

17

The Lord continues to address his faithful (and hospitable) servant Abraham in a grace-filled revelation of the near future. A son will be born to Sarah, of her own flesh. Such news is too wonderful for Abraham (and Sarah too), and it's met with a mix of doubt and joy. Yet, a twofold unveiling of the soon-to-be birth of Isaac gives solid assurance of its certainty. Through Isaac will the covenant line continue, and through him there will be blessing for the families of earth. These verses reveal much about the good character of God Almighty, for whom nothing is impossible, not even life for the dead and mercy for the sinner! Indeed, this sovereign and good God of Abraham and Isaac is fully revealed in Jesus Christ, to whom we bring our whole selves—our doubts, joys, faith, and obedience—for there is nothing too hard for him!
