Christ is God's Propitiation

Mankind has offended God by both original sin and the practice of sin. Man faces a Just God whom he cannot satisfy. Is there an answer? Yes! God the Father, in the place of judge, set forth Christ, in the place of the victim. God poured out His wrath, satisfied His justice and dismissed the sin charged to His elect. Propitiation, in our text, is the satisfaction of justice. Typically, it is the fulfillment of the Mercy-Seat, a type of Christ.
