Forfeited Assurance
Series False Conversion
Scripture distinguishes between intentional sin and untinentional sin. The former is sin that is planned and plotted. The latter is sin that spontaneously arises from the weakness of sinful flesh. Both kinds are sinful, but intentional sin is more aggravated. The fastest way to cloud your assurance of salvation and your peace is to commit intentional sin. Until you repent and change your ways and stop indulging the sin, assurance will be hard to come by. We quence the Spirit when we commit intentional sin. One of the blessings of the Spirit's ministry to believers is assurance. He testifies with our spirit (the Spirit of adoption) that we are the children of God. Well, what do you suppose will happen when you quench the Spirit by intentional sin? The voice of the Spirit's testimony (that you are a child of God) will go silent. You will lose your peace and confidence. Unless you repent, nothing can be done about your "assurance problem". The ball is in your court.
