A Humble, But Glorious Title
15
True words are often spoken in a jesting tone; many a tribute is spoken by sinister and malicious lips. The enemies and critics of Jesus tried to brand His name with infamy; they derisively slandered Him as the friend of publicans and sinners. But their slander formed His reputation; what the bitter Jews spoke was changed by the Holy Spirit into a glorious and humble title of honor. Jesus was justified in a name that His enemies slandered Him with; He completely fulfilled its tenets toward sinners.
