In the beginning of the book of Daniel, the king of Babylon set out to reidentify and reeducate the four young men as Babylonians. Part of the reidentification was to be accomplished by giving them food and drink from the king's supply, to gain their willing service. Daniel would not defile himself with unclean food, and he approached the situation with faith and wisdom.
