God's Mightiest Works in Us

117

We read of Hezekiah's revival, but actually, it was the work of God in the hearts of His people.

It all happened very suddenly, shortly after the land had been ruled by wicked King Ahaz, who erected idols and sacrificed his own children to them.

Hezekiah rejoiced, that God had prepared the people. A month later, Scripture tells us the Lord gave them a heart to obey and return to celebrate the Passover.

This working of God in cold, dead hearts to draw them unto Himself is the greatest miracle of all! For we are bound by sin and the fall, and rebel against God, and cannot seek after Him.

Yet by the Holy Ghost, we are made alive again and brought to Jesus, and this is the most astounding transformation imaginable!

How foolish we are when we complain that God won't use His power toward us for some good thing we long for, when He has already done so by changing our hearts toward Him! This is by far a greater work than anything we pine after from Him!

The miracle announced to Zecharias, John the Baptist's father, was not that the old should bear a child, but that God would use him to turn many unto the Lord, and prepare their hearts to receive our Lord Jesus!

Jesus taught us that the work of God is that we believe on Christ. This is a call to faith in Jesus, but also a declaration that it is God's work in us, not our own work, that brings us to everlasting life.

Jesus explains that nobody will trust in His Gospel unless the Father draws us unto Christ. He guarantees that everybody drawn by God will indeed come, and everybody that comes, Jesus will in no wise cast out!

It is God's teaching us and changing us that is His most mighty Work for us!
