A Teacher in the Hand of God

At Pentecost, God ‘arrived’ so to speak, and then the preaching literally explained what was going on. In one sense, all Christian proclamation is like that. If God has not done something, there is nothing to explain.

In Ezra’s day, God provided for his people to return to their land, as forgiven people and with a future. The faithful teacher’s focus is all on God, and he makes it clear to his secular patron and fellow travellers that their success will depend wholly on God. We need this focus on God himself so that all can see him and his kindness.
