Out of the Trash Can
Out of the Trash Can is a sermon preached to a group of people whose lives were ruined by calamity. Many of the audience are addicts and alcoholics. In this sermon I have considered the calamity in David's life, when Ziklag was burned and his whole army's wives, children and goods taken. I have compared it to the calamities in the lives of the people to whom I was speaking. I then show that David, even in that calamity, found strength in the Lord his God. Drawing from David's psalms, I have showed 3 key elements in David's ability to find strength in the Lord His God, even in the face of that trauma. The key understandings are; David understood that he was born helplessly ruined by sin, David understood that he was graciously clothed in the righteousness of Christ, David understood that because of God's gracious work in His life he could excel even in that situation. This message is a very strong gospel appeal.
