Zechariah's Opening Oracle

Zechariah's prophecy begins with a brief and pointed oracle. This "word of the Lord" introduces the night visions as the first main section of the prophecy. But it also frames the entire book, situating Zechariah's prophecy within the salvation history and indicating the meaning and obligation of Israel's then-present circumstance in light of her past and future in God's purposes.
