Walking in the Light and Sitting at Christ's Table

246 ( 149 | 97 )

When it comes to the Lord's table, and the reading of the words of institution from 1 Corinthians 11, we are confronted with the dividing of the congregation into two halves: the worthy and the unworthy. That is those who are saved and have a right to partake of the elements, and those that are unsaved and have no right, or the saved but backslidden and rebellious who have forfeited their right to the table's blessings until they repent. Hence why we are exhorted to self-examination. John's first epistle is also one of self-reflection and examination, including as it does many marks and test of a true believer:

  1. The Declaration of God's Being

  2. The Testimony of Our Salvation

  3. The Cleansing by Christ's Blood
