He Descended to the Dead

After briefly discussing the question of where Jesus' soul was during the time his body was in the tomb, this sermon goes on to focus on the three important elements that Matthew highlights in connection with the burial of Christ: the eye-witnesses to his burial, its unusual nature, and the strict security surrounding it. In so doing, he sets the groundwork for the testimony to Christ's miraculous resurrection.
