The Impact of Happy Servants
Happy People Serving Happily
Here's a tip. When Jesus speaks, we should cling to every word He utters. And when He speaks of someone or something, we ought to make it our business to find out why He highlighted a particular person over another. So I'm going to take the lead and give you a portion of the setting of this Queen and her encounter with the splendor and glory of Solomon.
"...HAPPY are your men, HAPPY are these your servants, which stand continually BEFORE you, and that HEAR your wisdom.'" (1 Kings 10:4-8)
The countenance, commitment and care of King Solomon's servants were partly what sold the Queen of Sheba on Solomon's presence, perception and purpose.
His servants were happy, honored, humble and hopeful. Their smiles, service and selflessness made a deep impression and impact upon a queen who was accustomed to luxurious living. Their joyful occupation, obedience and orderly ways stood out. Their peace, pleasantness and pleasure was clearly recognized and reflected upon by the Queen. These men and women KNEW their king and what pleased Him. They also knew he could answer and meet just about any need they had. Their King wasn't threatened by anyone or anything and that unthreatened attitude and atmosphere became a part of their everyday life. They served him cheerfully and with great confidence.
The neat thing of it all is they didn't take the credit for it... they happily deferred all the glory to Solomon, who they gladly and generously served. So much that the Scriptures felt it was necessary to engrave her personal testimony of King Solomon's effect upon her in the everlasting word of God for all eternity.
