In the portion of Scripture we are considering this morning....several questions are asked......which express a concern to know what one could do to please the Lord.

The Prophet Micah responds that walking humbly with God is that which pleases Him.

  1. The word “walk” is used in a figurative sense ....and it has to do with one's daily conduct or manner of life.

  2. NEXT WE WILL CONSIDER THE WORD..... “HUMBLE”

Walking with God....and humility are inseparably linked together.

In the Old Testament.....the word “humble” or “humility” are used as the translation of several Hebrew words.

One of those Hebrew words is “anah.”

It literally means to be bowed down or oppressed.

This word is sometimes translated... “poor” “afflicted” as well as “humble.”

Another Hebrew word is “kana.”

This has reference to a person who has been publicly humiliated.

This carries with it the idea of shame and dishonor.

Both of these words which we have been considering can be used to speak of a person who humbles himself.

IN THE NEW TESTAMENT........THERE IS ONE WORD IN GREEK WHICH IS TRANSLATED “HUMILITY.”

In Classical Greek......this word is almost never used in a positive sense......

.....because in the Greek culture......to be humble was contemptible.

The Greeks saw man....not God......as the measure of all things.....much like the day in which we live.....a day which has been greatly influenced by “humanism.”

TRUE HUMILITY EXISTS....WHEN A PERSON
