The Beauty of Humility

Aim: To humbly take our places, and discharge our duties in the church of Christ.

Doctrine: Only the humble people go to heaven. Humility precedes all authentic honor and all kingdom usefulness.

Exegesis: The lovely benefits of humility: humility's service leads to glory (vv. 1-4); humility's submissions leads to grace (v. 5); humility's safety leads to greatness (vv. 6-7).

Further application: The marks of the humble soul: it detests proud heart-motions, and it exalts Christ, not self.

Key verse: v. 5 ''Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for 'God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.'''
