Thesis: We need to remember that Christianity is Liberation = Freddom from enslavement to the Law.

Paul shifts his discourse to the Galatians from legalism to opposite extreme of being libertine, that you may do whatever you want, like the law does not exist. Both mindsets miss the mark of Christ's road to freedom in the salvation he purchased for us. Christ made the believer free from earning salvation, performing ceremonial law, sacrifices, etc.

  1. FREE TO FIGHT THE FLESH (v.13) - 1st Commandment
    a. Able to keep sin from taking hold of our life
    b. Have Holy Spirit to guide us in battle against sin
    c. Free to use God's Word in every situation to confront sin's attacks
    d. Frees us to hate sin - because of new nature from Christ

  2. FREE TO SERVE OTHERS (v.13-14) - 2nd Commandment
    a. Serve lovingly as Christ - wash others feet
    b. Become like Christ in heart (Philippians 2)
    c. love neighbor now as much as you love yourself (v.14)
    d. Christ frees person to keep law from heart(desire) which we couldn't do from duty (obligation).

CONCLUSION
Freedom in Christ is heart ability to follow law of Christ joyfully.
