A Strange Meeting

A highly recommended sermon, this is a must hear!

This is a most amazing story that Samuel should appear in these circumstances after he had died.

Samuel the Prophet has died and Israel were facing a war against the Philistines. The LORD had stopped speaking to King Saul because of his failure to fully obey His commands regarding Amalek. Saul in his foolish desperation visits the witch of Endor, who had a familiar spirit (or demon) in an attempt to contact Samuel, but something unexpected and amazing happens.

1. HIS DECEASE
   i) The lamination of Israel
   Israel mourned for this great judge and prophet of God

ii) The loss to Israel
Israel had lost a great man of prayer who interceded for their nation

2. HIS APPEARANCE
   i) The reality of it
   The witch sees Samuel and Saul understands it to be Samuel

ii) The remarkableness of it
The futility of the occult, the witch expects her familiar spirit but is shocked to see Samuel

3. HIS MESSAGE
   i) The inquiry it contained
   v15 "And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up?”
   This is remarkable, Samuel was in the glory of heaven with the LORD and he was annoyed at having to leave for a moment.

ii) The essences it consisted of
When God stops speaking to you its useless to ask help from others. This is so true regarding you soul, only God can save you.
