Grace and Peace in the Land of Promise

Leaving Egypt, Abram returns to the land of promise, but his journey isn't simply pragmatic or geographical, it's a spiritual return to his gracious covenant Lord. Yet as he is overwhelmed by blessing, a conflict arises and Abram responds with God-given wisdom, generosity, and faith. The land is divided between Abram and Lot, with the latter taking the best part (as judged by worldly criteria). Abram, however, receives another confirmation of the good and extravagant promises of God—promises on which he rests. Let us acknowledge the goodness of the Lord to us, returning to him if we've strayed, seeking the peace only the Lord of peace can give, and living in the security of his fulfilled promises in Christ Jesus our Lord.
