Comfort for the Afflicted, Part 2

Does the Lord speak to the world and the people in it? Without qualification, the answer is a resounding yes. Though it is often denied, the message given and faithfully preserved in the Scriptures is as true and authoritative today as when it was revealed through inspired prophets and apostles. The faithful Church of the Lord Jesus Christ has been commissioned to proclaim the same message and, to the extent that she is faithful, carries with her that prophetic and apostolic authority. And let there be no mistake, the message is clear; human beings, though made in the image of God, are frail sinners and subject to divine wrath. This is God's eternal Word. But this is not the whole story. The same eternal Word reveals the coming and returning Savior. This same eternal Word reveals that the curse has been overturned by the coming and returning Savior. Yes, it is true that "all flesh is grass" and that it will pass away like a summer flower. But the Word of God stands forever and that Word reveals our salvation. – Pastor Schlegel
