Hold to the Gospel

24
  1. The Danger of Deserting God by turning from the one true Gospel.
There is only one Gospel because there is only one way for a sinful person to be made right with God. Do you know the way?

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him, will not perish, but have eternal life. – John 3:16
The true gospel is the gospel of grace. It is the good news of a God who is gracious to undeserving sinners. In grace He gave His Son to die for us. In grace he calls us to Himself. In grace He declares us righteous when we believe. Salvation is all of grace. Nothing is due to our efforts, merits, or works; everything in salvation is due to the grace of God.

But tragically, the Galatians were turning from the true gospel and embracing this false gospel of works. And in doing so, they were not only failing to lay hold of eternal life, but Paul says they were deserting God!
When you turn from the Gospel, you are not just turning from a creed, you are turning from God!
There is a very present danger of deserting God by turning from the Gospel. That is the warning.

And now secondly, I give you a call to action.
2) The Call to the Church of God = Reject all distortions of the Gospel!
Detecting Distortions:
The marks of the true gospel are given here.

  1. The gospel of grace:
The true gospel magnifies the free grace of God.
  2. The gospel of the NT
-the source (where it comes from) = the true gospel is the gospel of the apostles of Jesus Christ – in other words, the NT gospel. Paul's anathema is pronounced on anybody who preaches a gospel different from what the apostles preached and which is now recorded in the NT.
