Introduction to God's Law

1. What is God's law is for?

i. To lead us to Christ.

ii. To restrain sin in the world.

iii. To be a rule of life for believers.

2. The threefold division of the law

i. The moral law (Read WCF 19:1,2,5)

a. There is a moral law of God which is for ever binding upon all men.
b. The moral law summed up in the ten commandments.

ii. The ceremonial law (Read WCF 19:3)

iii. The judicial or civil law (Read WCF 19:4).

a. The judicial laws are distinct from the ceremonial because they were administered by different authorities.
b. The judicial laws distinct from the moral law because they were limited to Israel.
