God Is On The Move

128 ( 87 | 41 )

This week we begin a series through the book of Ezekiel and I encourage us all to take some time over the coming weeks to read through Ezekiel and familiarize ourselves with it in order to gain the most from the preaching series.
Our focus this week will be the first chapter, where Ezekiel is given a vision of "the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord." In this vision, Ezekiel sees the throne of God, on a heavenly chariot, being transported by heavenly beings. God is on the move! To Ezekiel's original audience, already deported to Babylon, this would have come as some surprise - God's dwelling place was in the temple, back in Jerusalem. But it also brings them great hope - God has not forsaken them after all.
Ezekiel himself needed to encounter the Lord, in all his glory, if he was to tell the people that their only hope and glory was the Lord - not the land, or the temple, or any other god. He too is our only hope and glory. And, in his faithfulness and 'mobility', he has come to us in his Son, Jesus Christ - who is our hope of glory.
