The Acceptable Year
40
The famous ball falling in Times Square announces the turning of the calendar to a new year. The celebration of the new year is often viewed as an occasion to reflect upon the past year, to give thanks for the blessings of the past year, and to make resolutions for the coming year. It is a time when all things seem possible. But sadly, the optimism is usually replaced by the day-to-day reality sooner than we would like to admit to ourselves or anyone else. The temporary nature of the effects of the new year is contrasted with the glorious new year announced by Christ. A year truly worthy of celebrating.
