Stages in the Believer's Life

The principle of love is again introduced by John in this section, describing it as at the same time old - being found in the scriptures - and new in the way Jesus gave it a new emphasis. John then addresses three groups of people in the churches: children, fathers and young men. We argue that it is to be taken literally and spiritually, there being a correlation between age in years and maturity in the faith.
