I. The Baptism that Now Saves - An Anti-type of Noah’s baptism (v. 21, 20b)
• What it is Not – “the Removal of the Filth of the Flesh”
• What it is – “The Answer of a Good Conscience Toward God” (Heidelberg Catechism #70)
• “By the Resurrection of Jesus Christ” – Two-fold in Nature
• Once at the Time When a Person is Born Again and then On-going in the Trials Endured No Matter How they May Be
• Illustrated in Noah Stay on the Ark (Genesis 7:11-13, 24; 8:3-4, 13-14, 16)
II. The Assurance and Comfort that Our Trials are and will be a “Baptism that Now Saves” (v. 22)
• The Sovereignty of Jesus Christ is Absolute (Genesis 41:44; 1 Corinthians 2:8; Colossian 2:9)
• No One and Nothing Can Hinder Christ in Accomplish His Work of Baptizing His Elect for Eternity and in this Life
Conclusion/Application
Patiently Endure our Baptisms by Trial – Taking Comfort in Knowing that Each Trial will Result in Our Becoming More and More Conformed to the Image of Christ; And being Assured That Christ will Accomplish His Good Purpose Since He is Sovereign over All – to his Glory!
