A Reasoned Defense (of the Faith)
Series Series in Acts
Aim: To be totally composed in Jesus—as we proclaim His exclusive glory.
Doctrine: There is a great contrast between false religion's rage, and the true religion's calmness. Gospel-resistors fly into a fury while gospel-preachers remain completely rational.
Exegesis: How redeemed Christians are to offer a reasoned defense (of the faith): first, by being prepared and respectful (21:37-22:2b); then, by being candid and engaging (22:2c-5); finally, by introducing Christ to our hearers (22:6-8).
Further application: The advantages the true church possesses in all discussions about religion: we may remain perfectly serene because we serve the living Christ who reigns over all.
Key verses: 21:40b-22:1 ''And when there was a great hush, [Paul] addressed them in the Hebrew language, saying: 'Brothers and fathers, hear the defense that I now make before you.' ''
