The Phillipian Jailer- Part I
Series Book of Acts
Paul and Silas sat is a cold Philipian jail, being arrested after casting a demon out of a slave girl. They were given no trial or hearing, which was entirely wrong for their status as Roman citizens. Yet at midnight, the cold damp jail was filled not with the sounds of conmplaint or cursing but rather with the sounds of hymns and prayer to God. Two men who had every right to demand justice and be upset for their treatment chose to glorify God and give thanks for the oppourtunity to serve. The prisoners listened attentively to the men and must have been astonished at their behavior. We face many trials and challneges day in and day out. Yet few of us face the kind of strugles that Paul and Silas faced. Others are watching us. What do we do when things are hard? Do we glorify Jesus before others or do we make Him look bad?
