What Do You Do More Than Others?

24

Jesus exposes the insufficiency of community standards: loving those who love us in return and greeting our brethren only. Even despised tax collectors and Gentiles do this. Then Jesus stresses the perfection of the divine standard. Practical observations: 1) The true Christian is a unique kind of person -- he does more, and he aims for more. 2) We have every reason to expect the Christian to be unique -- he professes to be more, he has more, and he is more. 3) This uniqueness as a child of God is especially shown by disinterested love. 4) The great pattern for disinterested love is the perfection of the heavenly Father.
