God is Good!

You are probably familiar with the little prayer,
God is great; God is good
Let us thank him for our food...
This is often called a child's prayer because it is a teaching prayer intended to help our children learn how to say grace or give thanks to God before every meal. But there is more depth to this prayer than is immediately apparent. It is characterized by simplicity, accuracy and profundity. The words are simple enough, but to really grasp the meaning of the words can take a lifetime of experiences. It is important for us to think clearly and accurately whenever we think about God. That God is great can be known by observation - the heavens declare the glory of God. But how can you know that God is good? When we look to creation, it seems obvious that God must be greater than that which he has made. But is it as obvious that God is good? Aren't there things that happen in the world that challenge or at least call into question the goodness of God? Aren't there things that happen in your own life that sometimes cause you to wonder if God is good? Psalm 119 is all about the Word of God, the Scriptures. It's the Bible that assures us that God IS good and DOES good...
