Forgive as We Forgive
Series Profile in Prayer
It really doesn't matter what we say. No believer is seriously able to go to God for mercy in prayer while refusing to extend forgiveness and mercy toward another person. James makes this clear when he says, "Judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment" (James 2.13). Listen to Jesus within our very context: ""For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." (Matthew 6:14–15, NKJV) My desire and petition before the Lord is for daily mercy. I need it. I know I need it. I expect that I shall have it. Therefore, I am willing to extend mercy and forgiveness to those who hurt me.
