Predestined to Hell - The Doctrine of Reprobation

There is perhaps no doctrine in scripture more hated than the doctrine of reprobation. People hate predestination, but are OK with it as long as some preacher tells them that people are only predestined to heaven. But Peter speaks of the other side of the issue. There are those who are appointed to doom. If God only predestines some to heaven, then he de facto predestines the others to hell. How can this be? Is this fair? Is God unjust?
