You shall be Holy

Holiness is a responsibility that flows from redemption as exemplified by this text where the commandments of God are shown to be interconnected. The fifth commandment and the fourth commandment are connected showing the interplay of family and church life as a means of cultivating holiness. Sabbath keeping and honoring parents require active obedience for learning holiness. Likewise the first and second commandments show the foundation of holiness is God Himself. Worship and obedience to the true God are always connected to the holiness exhibited by His people. The second commandment relating to proper worship also relates to the eighth commandment against theft. In this case, the peace offering is connected to the proper provision for the poor and needy.
