A Song of Final Restoration

In this sermon I will continue our exposition of Isaiah. The theme of our present section is the “burden of the Lord” against the nations that surrounded Israel and Judah at that time. But Israel and Judah will not escape the judgment of God. In fact, the Lord will judge the whole earth, with a final judgment at the end of this present age. However, the redemption of God will also be consummated at that very same time. And it is the “song” of the redeemed that is emphasized in chapters 26-27. In other words, on the “other side” of the judgment of God, the redeemed will sing about the faithfulness of God and His glorious salvation (26). And they will sing about the glorious restoration of all things (27). That is what we will see in this sermon as I develop the theme of the fruitful vineyard, the Lord's discipline, and His final triumph. This is what we, the people of God, can look forward to. The future of the world is bleak indeed, but the future for the Christian is nothing less than supreme glory. These words were meant to encourage the ancient remnant of Judah, and they should encourage us as well. May the Lord truly bless His word!
