The Wicked King and the Witch

A failure to inquire of the Lord ties chapters 27 and 28 together.

1. Failure to seek the Lord - David fails to inquire of the Lord and sojourns in Philistia, falling into a variety of sins.
2. Failure to obey the Lord - Saul's tragic fall deepens as he fails to obey God's prohibition against necromancy and resorts to a medium in order to gain information.
3. Lessons: necromancy is a condemned practice - Saul comes to a tragic end - a better way to get guidance involves conversion, Biblical study, prayer, the involvement of counsellors and trust.
