The Power of Affirmation

The seasonal scramble for the perfect gift is under way. Isn’t it a thrill when you think of that gift for someone else that is not only wanted, but also truly needed? The Apostle Paul gave Timothy such a gift, and God’s record of it in the New Testament shows us what it means to bless others with the gift of encouragement. “ To Timothy, a true son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord. ” (1 Timothy 1:2, NKJV) The occasion of Paul’s writing marked a time when Timothy desperately needed encouragement: disheartening circumstances and contentious people faced him daily in Ephesus.
