Remember and Restore, O Lord

The prayer of the final lament in Lamentations 5:1-22 brings not closure, as we might have expected, but a turning point in the deep grief over the tragic loss expressed throughout the book. It shows us that facing the pain of our loss and voicing it to our LORD in crying out for His restoration is a significant step toward healing. The prayer appeals to the LORD to:

1. Remember the suffering of our
   economic humiliations (5:1-10)

2. Look on the afflictions of our
   social shame (5:11-14)

3. See the sorrow of our hearts
   (5:15-18)

4. Restore us, O LORD, to Yourself
   (5:19-22)
