We Will Come Again to You

8

In Genesis 22 we have one of the most well-known scenes in all of the Bible - Abraham is commanded by God to sacrifice his son Isaac. Abraham's silence – and his immediate obedience – speaks volumes. How is it that in the face of losing the son whom he loves, and receiving a command which seems to be contradictory to everything he knows about God, that Abraham can say with perfect confidence that he and Isaac will return? Is he being deceptive to Isaac by telling him that God would provide a sacrifice, knowing full well that God had told him Isaac would be the sacrifice? His reasoning isn't discussed in Genesis 22, but it is in the New Testament, and there we find that Abraham's confidence is in nothing less than the power of the resurrection.
