Rest from Our Enemies

131

In the days of Esther, the people of God received a temporary respite from their enemies when those attackers were destroyed. The result of that peace and quiet was the spontaneous eruption of joy. A yearly feast, Purim, was added to the Jewish calendar to commemorate the rest they had gotten from their enemies.

But the rest of the Jews came to an end, and they have continued to experience much turmoil and death over the past 2,500 years. The rest God granted them in those days was not the full and final rest He had promised His covenant people.

That rest, that Great Reversal, would come about through the Cross of Christ. Part 2 of this message explores the connection between the rest in the days of Esther and the Believer's rest that has been won through Christ.

We'll consider how Christ has defeated our spiritual enemies to bring us victory, liberty, and rest. We'll also consider when and how we ought to celebrate the rest that is ours in Christ.
