Dying Embittered, Pt. 2

101

I. We learn that difficult events can often expose our spiritual condition.
II. We learn that the best of us can easily end up trusting in anything else but in the Lord.
III. Our early years of faithfulness does not guarantee our future faithfulness.
IV. Our early years of faithfulness must not immunize us from future rebukes.
V. Our sins can easily become consistent in our lives.
Conclusion
Where is the Gospel in Asa's life?
•THE GOSPEL: It is in this sickness we see the grace of God. The Lord disciplines whom He loves. Who pursues Asa? Who confronts him? Is it not God? Did God just let him wallow in his sin? God brought His WORD to Asa and God chastised Asa with sickness.
•THE GOSPEL: More importantly, we realize we are all too much like Asa! We don't say, "I'm better than that." We say, "I am or will be just like Asa – Lord forgive me, Lord hold me. Thank you that Christ died for sinners and that there is pardon for all my sins in Him. I will not trust myself, nor in anyone or anything else, but in you alone. I'm a sinner saved by grace and glory in the gospel which preaches pardon to me in Christ. Lord deliver me. There is hope for me as an ASA if I come to you and repent of and confess my sins."
