Introduction

I. Running Commentary

• 65 You have dealt well with Your servant, O LORD, according to Your word.

• 66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe in Your commandments.

• 67-68 Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep Your word. You are good and do good; teach me Your statutes.

• 69-70 The insolent smear me with lies, but with my whole heart I keep Your precepts; their heart is unfeeling like fat, but I delight in Your law.

• 71-72 It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn Your statutes. The law of Your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces.

II. Running Contrary

A. Suffering Weans Us Off Of The Temporal

B. Suffering Focuses Us Upon the Cross

But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2 Corinthians 12:9
