Advice for President Obama

337

On the program today, I will speak with Lee Wishing - administrative director of The Center for Vision & Values at Grove City College in Pennsylvania, about an article he recently posted on WorldMag.com

In that article, Lee wonders what advice the seasoned Franklin Roosevelt would give to Pres. Obama about delivering his first State of the Union address.

In his 1944 address, FDR attempted to implement many of the same 'progressive' agenda items that Pres. Obama has embraced.

Wishing writes, 'Roosevelt believed it was time for the role of government to evolve from protecting to providing. In the old model, man received his rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness from his Creator, and the role of government was to secure these rights. Under the new progressive model, government would create new rights and provide them to its citizens ... a social salvation messiah of sorts. Among the many new rights Roosevelt envisioned was 'the right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health.'

On today's program, we will discuss the similarities between the two presidential agendas.
