Some Better Thing for Us!

76

We ought to meditate upon the miracle of the Lord's Supper, and how it has served to regather Christ's people, His Own sheep, each Lord's Day for almost 2000 years!

Indeed, it is a picture of Christ's Good Shepherd gathering His sheep, which the Father gave Him. He gathers us when He saves us, and yet, week by week, we are gathered again together as His people, in His congregations, to celebrate how it was that He saved us.

"If I be lifted up, I will draw all men unto me," the Savior promised. He also said that He would gather His sheep, and He would die to save His sheep. His sheep hear His voice, and follow Him, and He gives to us eternal life, that we will never perish.

Just before His crucifixion, He instituted His Own Supper, as a memorial of His saving sacrifice. He promised that one day, He will celebrate it new with all His people in His Kingdom.

The Apostle Paul restated Christ's institution of the Lord's Supper, and commanded believers to come together, and to eat this feast, apprehending the Lord's body.

We come together to feed by Him and upon Him, to understand again and again, that His giving of His life is ALL our life. By His body and blood we are saved unto everlasting life.

But it is still amazing that all these centuries later, Christ's loved ones are still gathered by His sacrifice that saves us.

At the end of the Hall of Faith in Hebrews 11, the writer declares, "All these, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise; God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect."

This "better thing" is the completion of what they all trusted in: Christ's offering!
