Why Doesn't Everyone Believe?

26

The Savior, over the previous few chapters, has worked amazing and unprecedented miracles. The lame walk, the blind see, and the dead are raised again. We also read that there were some who heard His words, saw His miracles, and believed in Him. In many ways this is the expected result. It would seem that He could do or say nothing more than what He has done. And yet, we also read in the gospel accounts that some responded by raging against the message and seeking to kill not only Lazarus, but the Savior Himself. How should we understand this? It appears to be so contrary to reason and it would seem that even the hardest sceptic would at least pause and consider. The response of the Pharisees is indicative of why not only they, but all who hear the message reject it and even respond with anger or violence. The issue is not a lack of information, or any other common offered reason. The issue is the heart-condition of those who hear, and in the case of the Jews, see. Understanding their response is the key to understanding unbelievers today. – Pastor Schlegel
