The Complete Cherishing of Life
Series Book of Deuteronomy
17
Moses lays out for the second generation several areas of life in which they would be tempted to make excuses in their keeping of the sixth commandment. Each one of these situations represents an area of life and death in which God's law demands perfection. In order to keep the land and to receive God's continued blessing Israel must not allow the land to become defiled through their breaking of the sixth commandment. We also make excuses for our breaking of the sixth commandment, especially in our thoughts toward others and in failing to seek the flourishing of those around us. We must love our enemies and do good to those who hate us because God has loved us in Jesus Christ.
