The Authority of the Gospel

227 ( 142 | 85 )

Acts 15:1-2 -- And certain men came down from Judea and taught the brethren, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.” 2 Therefore,
when Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and dispute with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas and certain others of them should go up to Jerusalem, to the apostles and elders, about this question.
 This teaching was a perversion of the gospel.
 Is this what the Jerusalem church was now teaching?

I. Paul’s Authority as an Apostle 11-17

II. Paul’s Relation with Jerusalem 1:18-24

Historically – he is referencing Acts 11:19-26.

Acts 11:27-30 – Here we see Paul and Barnabas – going to Jerusalem.
FF Bruce is quite persuasive that this is the meeting that Paul is
referencing In Galatians in 2:1-10.

Fourteen Years = 14 years after Paul’s conversion on the Damascus Road.

III. Paul’s Visit to Jerusalem 2:1-10

A. The Matter of Titus 1-3

B. The Parenthesis 2:3-5

2 Peter 2:1 -- But there were also false prophets among the people,
even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly
bring in destructive heresies,

C. The Commission from Jerusalem 2:6-10

  1. Paul had already been commissioned and didn’t need another.
  2. He was glad for the unity with Jerusalem.

  3. The right hand of fellowship
  4. Remember the poor
