Man's Dilemma

31

Paul eagerly preaches the Gospel because God's righteousness is revealed by the power of God unto salvation. Paul's second reason for his preaching is that God's wrath is revealed against ungodliness and unrighteousness. Paul explains man's plight from Romans 1:18 through chapter three in Romans. Man's plight is defined by an inner condition of wickedness and a cultural context still alive today. God's anger will come into full manifestation on the day of wrath and only His righteousness will remain. Until then, man lives in irrationality, fear, and despair. Ungodliness is an irreverence for God, a disregard of who He is, and impiety in behavior. Irrational worship begins with irreverence and this irreverence is used as an argument against God for sacraments of unrighteousness---the worship of the creature. While mankind knows God and knows His truth, these things are held down to the destruction of life itself, witnessing to man's depravity and desperation as they define a false reality. God stands against this, meeting man's need by declaring His righteousness and offering it in the Gospel as the only means of dealing with man's plight.
