· The Cocky Self-Reliant Mindset (John 9:31; Luke 18:9-14)

What Belongs to Such Prayer that is Acceptable to God and Heard by Him – 3 Conditions (Heidelberg Catechism #117):

A. That We Call Upon the One True God with Our Whole Heart – 4 Thoughts

B. That We Thoroughly Know Our Need and Misery:

· That We Thoroughly Know our Need – a Deep Sense of Our Dependency upon God (Acts 17:25; Job 34:14-15; Daniel 5:23; Hebrews 1:3-4; John 1:3-4; 6:33, 35; 14:6; Revelation 4:11)

· That We Thoroughly Know Our Misery – a Deep Sense of Our own Depravity (Luke 18:9-14; Psalm 66:18; 1 John 1:10; Romans 3:23; Galatians 5:17; Psalm 51:17)

C. That Our Assurance of God Hearing is Solely Based Upon Christ, as Promised in His Word:

· That we be firmly assured that Our Prayer based Solely upon Christ, Our Mediator (Romans 6:23a; Psalm 66:18; 1 Timothy 2:5; 1 John 2:1; Romans 5:1-2; Hebrews 7:25; 10:19-22; 13:10, 15)

· And the Promises of God in His Word

Conclusion and Application

Let us Approach the Throne of Grace in True Humility, looking to Christ alone in Faith, the Only Mediator between God & Man
