Introduction – faith defined

“These promises relate to a state of affairs belonging to the future; but these people acted as if that state of affairs were already present, so convinced where they that God could and would fulfill what he had promised.” F.F. Bruce

I: PERSPECTIVE (vv.13-16)

A: Eternal perspective. Perspective is a particular attitude toward or way of regarding something; it is a point of view.

C: The Means to give us perspective

II: OBEDIENCE (vv. 7-9; 24-27)

A: By faith Noah obeyed (v. 7)

B: By faith Abraham obeyed (vv. 8,9)

C: The Cost of faith – Abraham & Moses

III: COURAGE (vv. 23-27)

A: Extraordinary courage: Noah, Abraham, Rahab, etc.

B: Moses & his parents (vv. 23-37)

IV: RESULTS (vv. 28-30; 32-38)

A: Miracles:
• The Passover (v. 28)
• Crossing of the Red Sea (v. 29)
• Jericho (v. 30)
• Resurrections (v. 35, cf. 1 Kgs. 17:22; 2 Kgs. 4:36ff).
B: Amazing victories (vv. 32-34)
C: Endurance in suffering (vv.35-38)
