The Oath of God

The oath of God as an indication of the superiority of Christ's priesthood is seen in these verses.

1. Pre-eminence and permanence v20,21.
   The oath of God makes Christ's appointment to the office of priesthood pre-eminent, irreversible and everlasting.

2. The Surety v22a.
   Christ as the surety of his people - a truth to be learnt and treasured.

3. A better covenant v22b.
   What is meant by the old and new covenant in the book of Hebrews - the one covenant of grace under two differing administrations.

4. The eternal covenant of God.
   Christ appointed as the Redeemer of his people from all eternity - his redeeming work cannot fail of accomplishment, John 17:2
