Christ, humanity's only boast

"Christ, as our Redeemer, executeth the offices of a prophet, of a priest, and of a king, both in his estate of humiliation and exaltation."
Christ is magnified as antetype of Biblical prophets, priests and kings, glorious in each office.
1 The reality of Christ's offices. Old Testament types of these offices displayed in Moses, Aaron, Melchizedec, David and Solomon.
2 The necessity of these offices in Christ: because 1) man in his natural state is wholly ignorant and foolish, Ephesians 4,17-18; 2) man is wholly sinful and guilty Ephesians 4,19; 3) man is an enemy of God Colossians 1,21.
3 The occasion of these offices of Christ "both in his estate of humiliation and exaltation." Phillipians 2,7-8.
Application: 1 You cannot have Christ as Redeemer unless you take him in all three offices. 2 Do you submit to Christ, rejecting all and any contribution you think you can make to your salvation and sanctification? 3 How great and glorious is our Redeemer in light of these offices.
